Endodontic root canal surgery

In some cases it is necessary to perform a small surgical intervention to access the end of the root to be able to practice the endodontic treatment. This clinical intervention is called Endodontic surgery or root canal surgery.

At present, it consists of the following clinical phases:

1. Periapical curettage
2. Apicectomy
3. Cleaning and shaping of the principal canal at the apical end
4. Apical filling

It is all performed by means of an dental microscope, aiming to reach the best results. This process is known as Endodontic microsurgery.

Prognosis of endodontic surgery

The prognosis of the periapical microsurgery is very good, reaching success values close to 90%, values that are above those reached applying former treatments based exclusively on apicectomy.
