Radicular amputation / hemisection
A radicular amputation or hemisection is a resection of a multiradicular tooth’s root. The root that has been cut off is extracted, while the other roots are maintained intact.
This therapeutical option is still valid. It is indicated when an infection appears affecting only one tooth’s root, that has been endodontically treated, while the rest, the other roots, are healed. Perhaps the (¿indicación más actual?) is the presence of a fracture that affects one root of a multiradicular tooth, or the presence of a big caries that affects only one root.
Prognosis
In the medium-long term a good prognosis is expected. Basically, it will depend on the pressure (si carga se puede traducer como presión) put on the remaining roots. (¿y modo hacerlo?)
